Pros & Cons of Blogs
Personal Interaction
Pro: Blogs can offer your audience the ability to comment on your posts. This type of interaction can help to add a human quality to your organization, and can help you to learn valuable information about your audience based off of their feedback. Having the opportunity to interact with a "voice" of the company may help build consumer trust and loyalty.
Con: Since Blogs are usually written in a more relaxed tone, it may be easier for your message to be misconstrued by visitors and signal a negative response. Be sure to clearly communicate your views and moderate comments so that damaging remarks are properly handled, either by disallowing them or by clarifying the message of your post.
Easy to update
Pro: You can post new information quickly on your Blog and therefore spread news to your audience almost instantly. Your visitors can also subscribe to your feed and have updates about your Blog emailed to them on a regular basis. Having fresh content will give visitors a reason to come back to your site more often, and it will allow you to keep everyone informed the moment a post is added.
Con: Blogs may be easy to update, but they can also be difficult to maintain. In order to interact with your audience on a regular basis, you need to have something to say and the time in which to say it coherently. The effectiveness of your Blog is only as good as the content it contains, and if you do not have the time to maintain it, your Blog may lose its target audience.
Search-Engine Friendly
Pro: Blogs tend to have an optimized site structure with clear navigation and many inbound links, which are attractive to search engines. When updated on a regular basis, search engines will crawl Blogs more often and in return boost the ranking of your Blog in search results.
Con: In order to increase your rank, you must be able to dedicate time to updating your content with new posts regularly. If you find that you cannot keep up with the demands of a Blog in order to keep current with your audience, then having a Blog may not be as beneficial to you.
